Some suggested created an "auxilary" for the Hoot Owls with the women gathered at the base of the "Home Roost" in an obviously subservient role. Others argued in favor of equal membership. The debate raged for weeks with much humor. In fact, there was only one women ever admitted into members, Nellie Revell, an entertainment promoter with whom the Hoot Owls were friendly.
