Bishop Sumner played a major role. Apparently near to the program's inception, the Hoot Owls secured an old portable circus calliope -- then called the Owlorgan -- which Sumner played to accompany the program's opening song and for other interludes. it was said that his rendition of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata played on the Owlorgan could bring tears to the eyes of many (whether of rapture or humor is open to interpretation).
