A number of Hoot Owls cast members went on to major careers. George Olson and his orchestra played on very early Hoot Owls programs before departing for a Broadway career. His orchestra was popular on Broadway and recordings through the 1930s. On Olson's departure, Herman Kenin started his own orchestra and often appeared on the Hoot Owls. Kenin later became the president of the American Federation of Musicians and was influential in starting the National Endowment for the Arts.
