Newspapers across the country carried listings for the Hoot Owls programs. The mastheads of some of those papers are shown above.
While the Hoot Owls were a local program carried on KGW (and occasionally over a regional network of some additional stations as well as on the NBC full network), usable radio signals traveled further then than now because radically fewer radio stations competed for use of the airwaves. Listens as far away as the eastern seaboard, and internationally, could listen to KGW's signal which accounts for the program's listings being carried in so many newspapers distant from Portland.
