The cast carried on throughout the Fall including their traditional Sunshine Division Christmas broadcasts and, January 6, 1933, they assembled for their regular broadcast.  It seems unlikely that they had necessarily planned it as a finale.  Certainly, the Oregonian would have heavily publicized  the conclusion of the long-running program and the script would likely have paid tribute to all who had contributed to the remarkable undertaking.  But such was not the case.  The next morning the Oregonian tersely announced the program's end.

nextBishop Sumner had, also been with the program since 1923 but had to curtail his participation in 1931.
