During the worst of the Depression, the Mione Cannery in McMinnville offered to can contributed food without charge and the McMinnville location came to be called the Hoot Owls Cannery.
The Sunshine Division, under the wing of the Portland Police Bureau, survived the Hoot Owls programs, was incorporated as an Oregon non-profit corporation in the 1980s, and continues today to provide the service for which the Hoot Owls founded it more than 90 years ago.
