The Fall of the City
Critics wrote:
• "Pioneering a new medium, the verse play for radio MacLeish
foretold the fate of Vienna by eleven months.” one editor wrote,
"foretelling the fate of Prague, Warsaw, Oslo, Amsterdam, Paris.”
• "The Fall of the City" is exactly what everyone has been wanting -
a good poetic drama about contemporary reality.  Poetry and Drama
and Society, miserably separated for so many ages, have at last been
reunited."
The first broadcast of Fall of the City, on April 11, 1937, was made from the Seventh Regiment Armory.  The cast was too large to fit into existing CBS studios.
