Norman Corwin
Corwin came to be known as "the poet laureate of radio." He wrote and directed his first play for the Workshop in 1940. By 1942 he became the principal, and at times the sole, writer/director for the series.
His December 15, 1941 "We Hold These Truths" dramatized the Bill of Rights in a country newly at war. His May 8, 1945 "On a Note of Triumph" captured the nation's spirit after Victory in Europe. Both programs were carried on all four US radio networks. Corwin left CBS in 1949 to work for the United Nations radio division.
